@Ulfar - I was stressing the fact that there is more than enough time to do something nice. I meant that there is enough time even if you had to wait a very long time for an unbiased CPU renderer to finish rendering. Obviously, with Octane, that is not the case. Sorry if my wording threw you off. Even us native (US) English speakers murder the language.

Phrostbyte I understand you dude, but the memory is the main problem in this comparision. For example these renders I've uploaded have no hdri enviroment map, on olders GFes loading some nice map and some nice model with some bigger geometry is impossible. In new version it is fine, I can also set higher res, but i noticed some changes in fov working and bumpmaps and normals have lot of hotpixels on specular material, have you got the same problem?

Ah, looks good, could you explain how you do the plants. I fight here
with a tree and can't get it to work with alpha masks.

Cheers, mib

what the hell :) stop whining. Lechu's renders are inspiring for sure :)

gpus are like actors - there is no such a thing as a "small role" in the movie, there are only small actors ;) ( no offense to all )

There's no reason for you, lechu, to take your stuff out of the competition. You rock the software, and have great skills. That's part of the joy of the competitions; to compete. Your stuff is great, and it just makes me want to keep working harder.

Yeah, having loads of memory makes things a little easier, but I have found working with limited memory just makes me more creative. I've done most of my work so far with an 8800gt, and only recently bought a gts250 (in wait for my gtx470's to get here). If you find yourself needing more memory, try lowering your image map resolutions. I've also found switching from png (or other lossless/high data formats) to jpeg images really helps as well. I can pretty much throw anything I've been working on at the gts250 with its gig of vram, without really worrying about image sizes, so I've found myself getting a little lazy here and there.

Hi all,

I've spoken with lechu and his entry stays in the competition.

There is no reason for any problems or withdrawals, his entry is nice just like many more and all entries are welcome.
Let's put all this behind us and focus on making more nice entries.

I think the next competitions we will do, we will change the system, so people can submit images in private, without others seeing them until the competition ends. that will resolve these problems.

havensole I have already done this with me textures, I put smaller images on meshes. I think about some new, shots but I understand judgements prefer some bigger resolutions, so maybe I will make some simple model without complex scene.
