Do iRay have instances? - NO;
Do You know who owns mental images (creators of iRay)? - NVidia;
Do You think it's so easy to come up with optimised build for such things on very young language,
that even creators of technology couldn't push that faster?..

..think and think again before posting some stupid comparison with something like cycles or soft packages (that You haven't even try). Show something in comparison that is as good on GPU's as Octane, show something that cost as low as Octane..- in one package..

In the end, 'it's not in the tools..that matter most'..

I do 3dsmax plugin updates as fast as I can.
Roeland works on instancing and it is close to finish.

BTW you can launch two renders of the same scene on two different machines. Then you can mix in photoshop the two images.
I did a test and it works.
Doesnt Octane support Netrender too? I had also no problems rendering different scenes/frames on one machine at once. Or batch process scenes. All in all I rendered 18h of animations the last 8 weeks and had only three crashes. And it was rendering long with 2 580GTX as you can imagine and had a noteable impact on my electric bill hehe.

Radiance talked in his last letter that he never has to care about money now...so I think he may just be gone. As long a I get my instances (with proxies in 3dmax) I really don't care. Only fear I have at the moment Octane may be changed from Otoy that I don't have another rendering solution quickly for GPU rendering. Sure I have Maxwell but I would like to stay on a fast GPU solution. Plus all the time re-converting materials and my library will take long for another engine.
At what moment did you have this crashes?
- Two times it just stopped rendering on a certain frame using PT. Nothing was frozen. I was able to resume. But it happened at night so time was lost.
- One time it crashed opening MS Excel.
- One or two times it renders the frames but not to 2200 samples. Only 30 samples and then switched to next frame.

nrygpu, sorry if I said something harsh, have no intentions to be rude too =)

What I ment to say is that we can DO things because of hardware and software solutions.
If solutions providers (developers) are going to choose their busines strategy - it's their choise!
We accept & use it..or simply move on to search/use other tool. It's just a tool..

In the end there will be a lot of users who will never care about network rendering, but they will be absolutely happy to use software on their machines. Some will never use proxies, because all they do is some simple product visuals, that need to be produced fast enough, etc.

I don't know too much..& I know too little, to be honest. But it doesn't bother me..'cos I'd rather do what i can, than try to blow my head off because i cann't change something or can not do what i want..- the decisions that developers make: upgrade cycles, politics all the other stuff is their own choise in the end.

From the moment we all paid for this software, we become costumers, so it's not about 'take it or leave it' anymore... if a user feels decieved, they really should say it... if everyone is ok with it, that is, we don't want to hurt anyone's feelings

I don't want to be forced to pay for their renderfarm service, and I think I'm gonna flip if there's no option to do an offline renderfarm for DR. That would be just plain greedy
