Hi,
I´m using the Octane render demo and I have problems importing ojb. files from Rhino. I import the obj file correctly but, when I pick on the node to start to render the scene, the program get totally blocked and I have to close it with the windows task manager. The thing is that if , in the obj import preferences, I deselect the MTL square, then I can import and render the scene and all works perfectly but obviosly without any materials. All the scene is in a unique layer I guess because I deselected the MTL square. The thing is that I can import the obj files from the demo siute folder and is working perfectly without deselect the MTL square and of course it imports with all the layers as it has to be.
If someone have the same problem and a solution, please help me. I´m about buy the beta version but I don´t want to do it before solve this problem.

thanks!!

hi jodelap. There might be a problem within your exported obj file because if mtl file contains valid textures they should load. You can check your mtl file with notepad or any standard text editor. if the mtl doesn't load there might be a problem with a path/directory/filename within that mtl file. Octane would have problems reading paths with special characters or spaces in the names of image files. Also, for some recommended export settings, you might want to check this link: http://www.refractivesoftware.com/forum ... 2&start=44

Good luck with that and hope to see you on board soon
cheers...

Thanks for the answer. The problem is that even if I create two boxes in rinho and I asign one layer for each box. Without materials and textures. Even this file give error to the program when I import it a as a node and I pick on it to see the live render. So is something with the rinho file itself. Actually i tryed also exporting obj. from 3dsmax 9 and happends exatly the same. Octane import the file with only one layer and when I pick on it to see the render, the program get totally stuck.

ah ok, layers. Octane does not import the layers at all.

can you send us your simple obj file nonetheless, the one with the two boxes? we're curious. please send to support[at]refractivesoftware[dot]com

Ok, Thanks very much for your help. The problem is allready solved. Of course was somehow my foult but maybe the beta version could be modified to avoid this kind of problems. I´m going to explain my self so maybe is usefull for you , octane render team. The problem was that when i created the obj from rhino I used to take the obj file from my hard disk and put it into dropbox to share with my rendering server wich is phisically other computer. So when i tried to open the obj file from the big computer in the folder there was only the obj file. but not the mtl. file which has to be linked to it so the error was that octane get totally stuck because "he" couldn´t find the mtl file. In my opinion, and maybe is not your opinion, the program should not get stuck because of that. When you import a obj file without a mtl file the program should display a sign saying " you are importing a mesh without a mtl. file attached, the program will not aply materials into the scene" or something like that, not let you import it and get stuck when you pick on it to see the life render.

Thanks for your help, now I can buy the beta version. I hope I´m also helping you somehow

hi Jodelap, yes the mtl file should be in the same folder where the obj file is. it rendered fine here no errors, but no mtl :( with it...
also, thank you for the feedback, will put that in our notes.
and have fun with octanerender, cheers...
