Hi all,

The OctaneRender™ Team is pleased to announce the beta 2.58d test release. This release does
not introduce new features but fixes a few issues that were reported after the 2.58c release.

Features and bug fixes since 2.58c
  • Fixed copying and exporting materials with special characters in their name.
    • This has caused some recently uploaded liveDB macros to be broken due to missing textures.
  • Fixed rendering update if the sampling_rate or power input of an emission node comes from a macro input node.
  • Fixed crash when relinking an OBJ file replaces material pins without changing the pin count.
  • Fixed using a macro node as bump or normal map.
    • Note that for normal maps only RGB images are supported.
  • Fixed crash when a node without output pin is deleted using the delete menu item of the NodeStackItemComponent.
  • Fixed error handling bug in the OCS loader, which caused loading some valid files to fail.
  • Fixed using an UV mapped texture as emission texture.
  • Fixed node inspector update after pasting a node.
  • Fixed specifying camera, resolution or max samples on command line if specifying a render target node.

New features since beta 2.57
  • Quick material previews.
  • New light source sampling.
  • Further tweaks to the node graph editor and node inspector.
  • Lots of smaller features and bug fixes.

Known issues
  • The new Kepler architecture (GTX680, GTX690 and others) is not supported yet. We have not been able yet to get satisfactory performance with
the new CUDA version required for these cards.
  • On Linux the PMC kernel doesn't work on pre-Fermi GPUs (i.e compute model 1.1 - 1.3) - we couldn't find the problem yet, which seems to be a compiler bug.

Driver Requirements: This release was built with CUDA 4.0, which means that you need a recent enough NVidia driver (http://www.nvidia.com/page/drivers.html).
For Linux and Mac OS you also need to install the CUDA Toolkit 4.0 (http://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-toolkit-40).
For Mac OS you also need the latest CUDA 4.0 driver (http://www.nvidia.com/object/mac-driver-archive.html).

Thanks for this new build.
Roeland, do you plan to remove the pop-up window when rendering animation ( perhaps an option to switch in octane preference menu, to keep it or remove it ). It would be very appreciated, for me and some other octaners !..

Yes please. Simply make the --quiet option not fire any pop-ups.

Thank for the update.
I was hoping to get at least ONE new feature after more than a month of waiting, but no... :(

Oh btw, thanks to whoever deleted my thread about Indigo Render... Is it forbidden to talk about competitors?
