I'm tired to wait for plugins and standalone updates.
I know that my license is not for the "final working software" but I'm really tired to not see a constant grow of this software. We, at Renderfarm, were thinking about Octane to be our future render engine. We were wrong. (the C4D plugin 11c still wont work with R13 as discussed in the related thread)

Well, there are always other packages to look for, like:
* iRay, that comes with 3dsmax - downside is price and whole package, that people might not like so much..
* there's an Bunkspeed that runs on iRay engine, downside is PRICE like 2000-3000 $..
* & arion.. & some other..Google up for issus with them..
I mean, paying 90€ for this software..is dead cheap =) don't take it as one and only solution, but use it where You can. There will not be a software for everything, but if You skillful enough I believe that You can find a place in Your workflow for Octane, use standalone package.
I love what they are doing & i ready to wait aslong as it needs, 'cos in the market there isn't better solution at the moment. Let's be realistic..nooneis going to blame champion for his position saying that he haven't done things right.

Well what can I say really?....
Octane development certainly hasn't been without trials and tribulations over the past 2 years for various reasons however I would concede it has moved toward their v1 commitment albeit in jumps and starts and gaps at times.
I think everyone is hoping with the change of ownership progress will become steady and there are some early signs of that change.
They are still understaffed though presently for the progress the community would like to see but it is at least a llttle encouraging to see them come up with copying/pasting materials recently which has long been on the wish list.
I think there is a determination to do better overall. I have noticed the guys are being more attentive to answering forum questions of late.
While I understand your frustration I would give them a little more time to sort themselves out and set priorities. A few weeks anyway and see if Otoy have any announcement of a new sense of commitment and focus or whatever.
I think its actually important they do that but hey I don't run things even though it might seem as though I do because I have too much to say and post too often.
I'm not just saying to hold on as a stall tactic either because I have passed comment myself about progress and having Otoy step up to their business soon instead of relying on community participation to fill the void as much as has been done in the past out of goodwill.
I personally still believe gpu rendering has a sound future. I think many people express similar dissatisfaction to yourself because they are actually quite enthusiastic/impatient to see the technology develop to its potential and are inspired to ask for many more enhancements from their experience of using what they have already.
So I do empathise with your wait fatigue but all customers have pretty much the same circumstance to endure.
As @glimpse says for the price Octane is a good deal and that offsets the dragging to some extent. Its not an excuse but you would probably be much more animated about waiting if you had paid 999 euro and frankly so would I.

indeed updates would be nice... just a word on what is in development and what is going on?
I think Octane has great potential, but there are a lot of rough edges which could be alleviates with just a bit of communication, why not have one dedicated person answer all customer questions on a daily basis, for an hour or two surely keeping customers happy should be a matter of priority?

I'm looking every day for an update of this software, hope to see instancing. 80% of time I'am unable to use octane for my work because of out of memory and interminable exporting time. I love your software but I would like to use it for my work too!

* firstly you don't need to look for any updates every day - developers said before that instances are at best going to be at the end of the summer.erbombo wrote:I'm looking every day for an update of this software, hope to see instancing. 80% of time I'am unable to use octane for my work because of out of memory and interminable exporting time. * secondly if you run out of of Vram with Your low-end card just buy bigger one. At this point you can get easily 4Gb GTX or even 6Gb Quadro/Tesla.
* last but not least, learn some optimisation - Look at game artists - use their tricks. don't just throw premade models..

..without trying to offend You, it's not the tools, but the way You use them that makes the bigest difference =)
Cheers.
