Hey guys,

So I'm building a computer for rendering animations in Maya. I've been wanting to use Octane for a year already, but my laptop, unfortunately, has an ATI (and therefore, non CUDA) graphics card.

The specs of my computer will be as follows:

ASUS Maximus V Gene Z77 MicroATX Motherboard
IvyBridge 3770k (Quad Core)(OC'ed to 4.6GHz)
120GB Sandisk SSD
1TB 7200RPM Samsung HDD
16GB (4x4GB) 2133MHz RAM
Corsair H80 Watercooling System
620W PSU

And potentially, one of the following Graphics card(s):

One GTX 690 4GB Card (Which I hear is actually two 680's in SLI)
One GTX 680 4GB Card (I think this is called the "FTW" edition and will be released soon)
Two GTX 670 2GB Cards in SLI

My question is, which of these configurations would be best? I'm not exactly sure if Octane has official Kepler support yet, but I'm sure it will later. How will this compare to a Quadro 6000 GPU? (I can't afford a $4000 graphics card, so I'm going with the GTX models. The whole build will probably run me less than two grand, which is a plus.)

The 680 cards are very new in the market and existing programs and applications are still catching up with the new architecture. Same with every new card that's just launched, it will take some time before this card's performance will become more stable and we also don't have comparisons yet with the Quadro 6000

So far, with the current Octane build version 2.57 (and soon 2.58) the kepler architecture (gtx600 series) is not supported yet. and our developers have not yet been able to get a satisfactory performance with the current cuda version.

Until then, Octane is best used with the Fermi gtx580s and gtx590s for feature development and at the same time finding a solution for the performance drop in the Kepler. We are looking forward for drivers and software to be optimized for the new Kepler architecture. Meanwhile, we do have a current Kepler build which is built against cuda 4.2, it is available to download for licensed users who would like to use it
