I know that there are plug ins for several programs to export your camera (flythrough) to Octane. Is there anyway
to export a camera path created in Artlantis to Octane?
Side question can Octane make moving water in an animation like Artlantis?
Thanks for any help.

hmm, i guess you can try to open it in blender first...jsmendoz wrote:I know that there are plug ins for several programs to export your camera (flythrough) to Octane. Is there anyway

IF you can import that scene and camera path in blender then you can render it with octane on the fly...
best practice is archicad - blender - octane render (export model from archicad in 3ds format, open it in Blender, then in blender you do texturing, animation and anything you need, and render in Octane Render
using blender you can get a lot of stuff, not just water effects...but philosofy of blender is something complitly different comparing to artlantis workflow

Necko77,
Thanks for your reply. I have read on the forums models created in archicad to export to blender via 3ds file format, then to Octane.
The reason I went the route of Artlantis is because I have a huge library of objects in Artlantis to use in my architectural
models to give that more realistic look. Frankly I have never used Blender. As is I have my hands full learning octane,
revit structure and civil 3d. To add to that its too much.

If Octane render does not support the exportation of a camera path from Artlantis can you still create a fly-through in Octane? My apologies if the answer
is in a tutorial video on youtube have not had much time available to go through all of them. Thanks.

Have you tried going from archicad 2 artlantis 2 sketchup and then 2 octane?jsmendoz wrote:Necko77,

In sketchup you can make an animation and this way you can use your artlantis objects.
I am working with artlantis as well and learning and experimenting with octane as well

Thanks for the reply. I have been waiting for someone to help me with any info.
I haven't tried going from archicad > artlantis > sketchup > octane. In order to
export it from sketchup to Octane do you need the SketchUP pro or will the free
one suffice?
Also have you tried whether you can animate water in Octane through the various exports.
I have been a little hesitant to fully dive into Octane (even though it's an awesome and powerful
software) because I would lose animated water and sky-clouds from artlantis.
Thanks again

Hi jsmendoz,
I have not animated that much in artantis and I have not experimented with animation in octane ( yet ).
At this point I am learning octane, and I want to dive in octane fully. I think the potential in renderquality is much much better then in artlantis, at least .. I hope to find out. Why not learn and use different software and use one where it is better for that purpose. If you really need animated water, then render in atl, if not nessecary render in octane for better quality.
Maybe there is a wAy to work around things and make animated water in octane?
Is it possible in skp? That should probably your question if you will use the skp plugin for animation rendering in octane.
Unfortunately I cannot answer that question, while I am not into skp that much, but just experimenting with plugins to get my artlantiis/archicad 3d model in octane in a good way.
..., it looks like we are at the same stage right now

cute.. I have also started using Artlantis as a first render engine tool.. and bought the full version (it was like 8 times more expensive than octane), and planned on buying those additional 3d objects (gets a bit expensive), but than decided to test out 10 more rendering tools and ended up with octane as the one that I'm using for everything..
artlantis is a great tool, and the workflow is very simple.. the workflow is the same as octanes, artlantis even has nice features of building up your custom daylight setting also with clouds..
and now if you really want to control the scene, you should really try and learn some proper 3d software, the reason why archicad, revit autocads and all those software fail, is because they are designed for the technical aspect, the quality of visualizations is not the main concern, but for general 3d software packages they are, for now the best option is 3dmax for octane, because of the nice built in plugin, you can work on a window inside the app, and move change scene, import objects from other packages and so on..
So here's one suggestion, you can export objects as .obj and I guess whole scenes, and if you want to have most options - import it back in 3dmax, and make the animation from there (the basic camera movements are pretty easy to do on most of the packages), or use blender to do that for free..
the 3dmax bult in plugin costs as much as the standalone and you should buy 3dmax.. (yeah right, I hear you say), so it's a great excuse to try out blender (I like the fact you can start it up off of any computer with just a bootable version of linux and work on it from probably anywhere)
