It's not possible within the SKP [plain/textured materials only]... but later when when you are in the OCS it allows you to swap materials and LiveDB materials can have all sorts of sophisticated properties that are unavailable within Sketchup.
Export a SKP with a simple textured 'placeholder' material and swap it for some LiveDB ones, and mess on with the settings to see what's possible...
Bark, skin, leather, rippled water etc etc are all possible.
