A small feature request:

Add an "scale resolution" input parameter in the resolution node. With this parameter we would scale and keep the aspect ratio of the selected resolution, without the need to calculate values in mind and input them separately. Say you want to do a faster preview with lower resolution (but the same aspect ratio), you would input 50 (for 50%) to downscale the original values. The value range of the parameter could go for example from 10% to 1000%

I guess we´ve all been pampered by RS with really fast development in the past. But professional communication never was an outstanding skill of RS.

Anyway, so far they always kept their promises and I´m confident they will bring this piece of software to a good end. Finding new structures obviously takes some time.

I´d like to see a plugin for Rhino but I´m not so confident about that...

The possibility to lock the aspect ratio is a good point—should have thought of that before.

I will put up a release candidate tomorrow or maybe the day after, which will like the plugin have the possibility to get a quick preview of the material and texture nodes without interrupting the main render. Also the node graph editing got some more improvements.

hi roeland, could you build the new version for osx at 64 bit instead of 32bit?
now that with lion 10.7.3 all the gtx 5xx are supported without hack, we urgently need of a 64bit version

@roeland, that's great news.

A few small(er) things that could (eventually) be corrected in the future updates:

* Automatic re-map the roughness texture data, so it will become easier to control. Artists are used to paint textures in "linear mode", ie. Black = 0.0 intensity, 50% gray = 0.5, white = 1.0. But the roughness param. is exponential: a "50% roughness" starts at 0.01 or lower, which means it's very hard to paint a roughness map, since you have a very tiny span of (dark) values to work with (ie: everything brighter than 1% black produces a maximum rough surface). Octane would need to take into account that the texture map for roughness is painted linearly and convert the values during rendering.

* A similar problem is with the Octane color picker, which is gamma corrected (you have a very short span to pick dark / saturated colors, but a very wide area for bright / de-saturated colors), but artists are used to work with linear representation of values.

* Last time I checked we couldn't mix two normal map textures (mix node, 50%) and then use the result in the normal parameter - it produces strange / wrong results.

yeah, we've been asking to know if and when there will be an OSX 64bit version. Nobody dared to answer yet.

From what I seemed to understand, no instances in this update!
We shall see, certain that if this were so, would once again that the commitment is not maintained! and after months of total absence from the forum!

we will see, I will not lose hope!
Great

Daniel, the instances are planned for version 2.60 if I remember correctly.
RS also said that because of the acquisition of OTOY have had some delays in order to submit new staff.
