The general guess what are they working on right now is instances and consequentially a way for Octane to recognize "objects". So the feature you are asking should be possible, should be planned and should come sometime in the future...

This is all speculation, as we don't have any official info on development for a few months now.

Gee I hope so. Can really speed up work flow when you have multiple places in your pipeline where you can do the same thing. Especially since this is a real-time renderer, not having that kind of stuff on the Octane side can really slow you down.
