Hard Edges

I have some problem with the hard edges

see the deep_channel_kernel .. look the way it should
then the clay is smoothed
and the bad effect on the end ..

can't get it right in Octane
why?

If the deep channel is the shading normal, then it seams to be a Octane bug.
Otherwise it is the geometric normal and the result can be correct.

thanks Face I was thinking the same , but in other programs I did not notice that .
I was thinking it happen after conversion but the deep channel show it is all right regarding to the geometry
I am going to flip them and see if anything change .

Try disabling smoothing, smooth option if That is what you are looking for.

where are settings in Octane for smooth or hard edges ?
I imported the geometry as Hard Edges but it change while rendering to smooth edges and curves
as the possibilities are that the normals are flipped
I will check this when I am back home

smooth is an option per material. btw, it doesn't really smooth geometry, it does smooth the normals only...
The obvious is that which is never seen until someone expresses it simply

To disable the smooth is only the half truth.
It should also be possible to render it with smooth on when you set the discontinuity angle in your 3d app to a lower value.
This angle set edges hard, depending on the angle between the triangles.
Possible results are images like this with a simple 16x16 sphere.

Sorry for hijacking, but maybe sometimes a hintfull tip...

No problem, thanks a lot that are good tips
and you are right it should render it with or without the smooth function
as I am not for plan to go and change it manually when I have full scene of geometry and a lot of materials.
so I will pay attention , it was just surprising for me that it handle it this way .
