Keeping a tight lip on the ETA of much needed features is a sure way to frustrate your customers. The only thing more frustrating than being told a feature is 6 months away is being told - nothing....
Where do we stand?

You don't honestly believe that do you? Sorry but RS release what software they do when they are ready. The userbase constantly asking when it will be released makes no difference whatsoever.Refracty wrote:-1 glimpse
Very useful octane features (like sss or the DL improvements) came out because we (users) asked for it many times even if those where planned for V1 final or later.
So it is a mutual relationship.
We test the betas, we give feedback and often our wishes are taken seriously.
A bit of transparency regarding the near roadmap would be very fair. I am not speaking about revealing secrets, just a few bits of information to know what there I working on or what causes delays (like it is the case with the instancing feature).
Thanks

@steveps3, that's not true. I'm 100% positive that we got nodes box-select & .ocm export without embedded textures in the last version, because of my constant nagging...
But, seriously; communicating with the userbase is invaluable and if RS has now some strict NDA's in place, that prevent such communication, it will only be a loss for both parties.

One example:
I have communicated with Marcus (abstrax) because of the "black dots problem" with multi gpus. He was so kind to fix it within a few days. I asked him if he could fix the transparency problems with the DL engine and he improved it and fixed it.
There are many other examples...
Wait, do we have SSS, or is it still a work in progress?Refracty wrote:Very useful octane features (like sss or the DL improvements) came out because we (users) asked for it....
I heard a long time ago that displacement was coming, but I haven't heard anything about it for a really long time now (although I'm a new licensed owner, I used the beta off and on for almost a year).
FurryBall has quite a few features that I would love like SSS, Displacement and hair. Now that we know those are possible with the GPU, it would be great to know when / if we'll see them added to Octane
