Does Octane support frequent saving out of the finished render, so that if a system crash occurs, you can pick up where you left off? I would imagine that with the GPU-centric nature of Octane, that is not so critical compared to other un-biased renderers that might leave you stranded after a crash.

no - and you are assuming right. if the gpu fails (in fact the cuda core), the image just stops updating and can still be saved....
The obvious is that which is never seen until someone expresses it simply

you can always redo another render with different value for the russian roulette parameter in the kernel setting and composit multiple results in photoshop for a more cleaned image, it's not automatic but works very well ;)
