having exactly that working here, and no problems - as well as decent open gl power...
EDIT: of course not exactly - as on 2600k/hd 2000. if you build this rig, i would be interested in comparing opengl power of the hd 2000/hd 3000 graphics...

If you have this Asrock motherboard, can you check for me if there is space for 3x ZOTAC gtx580, AMP2 ?
but I think with 3xGPU cards will be the problem with overheating
I think, producents should place slots for GPU on opposite sides of motherborads for better cooling! why don`t they do that?...
btw, i meant the configuration, not the exact parts if you have cards with custom coolers, even those that need only 2 slots, you will for sure have heat problems, because most fan configurations need space inbetween the cards. i did choose the gigabyte geforce gtx 580, 3GB, but the pcie slot configurations of most available boards won't allow more than 2 without going for watercooling (imo)....

What kind of MOB's are running 8 580s I have been trying to find one. With no luck. Are they custom built or something?
I am guessing 580s will be a lot cheaper in a few months

Thanks
there was the msi big bang marshal board, but afaik it's no longer available. i think currently the evga z68 ftw is the best bet with five 16x slots (8x electrically) and one full 16x slot. and of course risers of some sort. and of course a very powerful psu and some truly advanced cooling solution still it could be the case that one 680 will match two 580s price- and performance wise, and a quad card config would save a lot headache with cooling and building such a rig...

co I think I will buy it, better than 2x GTX 580 (512 CUDA cores) , even that GTX 580 has 3GB.
What you think?
wee need to wait for an octane update for the new architecture, *) because octane doesn't work with the kepler for now. so the question is more how long this will last. at least from synthetic benchmarks it looks like a 680 is a little faster than a 590, but because of the different architecture in kepler, you can't just count cuda cores. also this will have to be proven in real word *)
