Hello everyone!

First time poster here, although I've been following for a while. I've run into a situation that I can't find a reference for - namely, whenever I've exported a file to OBJ from 3D Studio Max, the OBJ only comes in with two input nodes in Octane Standalone. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, as the demo files seems to have input nodes for each object in the scene.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

this depends on how your 3d app (what do you use?) writes materials into the .mtl while exporting the .obj. most common a max scene with only vray materials won't include any materials that can be exported by max itself (so you end up with one material node usually). c4d afaik doesn't write an .mtl at all, and other programs may need some specific settings for the export...

Thanks for the quick response. I use 3DS Max and I've followed the settings for export outlined in the manual and in the dedicated thread. What you've said is looking to be the case as all the materials are indeed VRay materials. Is it possible to export these materials with the OBJ file?

Thanks very much!

yes; you can use this script (donationware, at the bottom of the page) http://www.evvisual.com/index.php?optio ... 2&Itemid=9 to convert vray mats to standard mats. afterwards a .obj export will contain all needed nodes.

for max there are also free octane exporters available:
