I am having a major technical problem with Octane. We have multiple computers with GPU's but for some reason they are not processing animation frames correctly. Running OctaneRender for 3ds max plugin inside of 3ds max Design 2012 x64 bit.

We have:
-1 system with (2) Tesla M2090's 6GB video memory each
-1 system with (8) GTX 580's 1.5GB video memory each
and
-1 system with (4) GTX 580's 1.5GB video memory each

The problem I am having is that when I try to run a range of frames inside of 3ds Max Design 2012 with the OctaneRender for 3ds Max plugin, it will render like 1 to 2 frames at the most and then do nothing. I did a test last night on two of the systems and ran them both for 7 hours over night. The systems do not seem to be using hardly any resources. I have tried this on all 3 machines with the different GPU's and get the same result. We have really optimized the scene for Octane and it is only loading 900mb onto each GPU into the video memory so I do not think that is the problem. Especially with the Tesla cards since they each have 6GB of video memory.

We need to render 15,000+ frames for this project and it is due in about two weeks from now!!! I really need to figure out why this is happening asap! Has anyone had the same issue and if so how did you fix it?

Your help is much appreciated!

I can't really shed any light on a proper solution, other than rebooting and starting the animation render again. I had the same problem two nights ago, but after a couple of system reboots, my 900 frame render finally got past frame 3.

Karba sent me some Octane system files to replace and that seemed to help a bit. However still having this major issue. I can render some frames now which is better then before but after a while it gets to a point where it just hangs on trying to render a specific frame.

Also, seems like there may be a memory leak because after rendering many frames Max seems to use up all of the 16GB of system RAM and then just hang there and never progress on rendering more frames.

Is anyone else having these issues with rendering large scenes to animations frames in Max?

This MEMORY LEAK really needs to be fixed. I hope Refractive Software can fix it soon. ;-)

I experienced the same while running some renders overnight. I thought it may be because I run two instances of 3dsmax and let them render the first half of my movies frame and the other instance runs the second half. With this way I can render while one instance is exporting. Exporting the scene every frame takes longer as actually rendering it. This affect gets more serious with the numbers of GPU you have in a system.

It's necessary to implement soon a script for walk through animations. This will avoid many memory issues.

I have the same problem as nrygpu and it is NOT memory issue. I have 16gb also and max/octane use only 4-5 during my animation rendering. It is octane issue, and i really hope it will be fixed! I spent lot of money on upgrading almost everything on my PC , fulltower case, new MB, new memory, 3x gtx580 3gb each, had to change CPU to i5 because of new socket. And additional 500w psu to feed my third gtx580 (I have 1kW for all other)
So it all invested with inspiration of the octane! Now its total waste! My night rendering become nightmare, cos In the morning I see rendering friezed at the 3-5frame instead of 150. VERY disapointed

are you using Backburner?
how many GB memory you installed on your workstations?

I remember that a scene of mine filled 22Gb system ram before to be processed by the gpus.

Tomorrow I will do a test with my system and Backburner.

p.s.
my gpu workstations has SSD only

I believe its in my signature - 16gb, and my animation scene is pretty sample, octane doesn't care. It renders 3-5 frames and freeze
I did baby-seat, not going higher the 5gb of used ram and 600mb of vram but still freeze.

Can you describe step by step how should I render with backburner and does it help?

I have been setting up to render a range of frames out using Backburner. Even though I am only rendering on a single GPU system right now backburner seems to allow the frames to keep rendering without a crash of 3ds max.

However I am having a serious issue still with some frames coming out with a ton of noise. Some frames are fine but some filled with noise. This is on the same render job of a range of frames with all same settings for each frame. If every frame rendering out had noise then it would make sense but half are with noise and half without so it makes no sense.

Has anyone else had this issue? If so how did you fix it? Please share...
