It looks like that all the development focus is on the integrated plugins, so that's why no news on the core features side.

It's just a guess yes, but consider that in the last two or three months there was no major info on core development, while in the same period they announced work on 3 new integrated plugins. People are normally starting to ask questions about development progress (instances being the most hot topic).
