I have a 590 at work, and I'm not sure if it's working properly. The speed is very fast, but I have concerns about memory.
My test scene says this below the render window: 1053099 Tris, 2 GPUs, 385.5/448/1536 MB
When I go to the Preferences and CUDA devices, it says:
Global Memory Size 1536 MB
Total Usable device memory 448 MB
Engine runtime data: 23.9 KB
RenderTarget film: 10.0 MB
Geometry: 207 MB
Nodes: 3.1 KB
HDR textures: 8.0 MB
Image textures: 159 MB
The gray bar is really tiny, it seems as if it'll max out at 448 MB. What is going on?
GTX 590: Anything special to set up?

OK so is this Windows or Linux, and beta 2.52 or 2.57???
Is this your only graphics card?
Some other application(s) would seem to be using a lot of vram but it could be reporting the wrong stats.
Are you a Max+ Octane plugin user?
I think it is a known issue that Max caches to vram when you dont use wireframe.
Assuming you want to get the best out of your card it might be an idea to put another card in there dedicated to the display while the 590 does the cuda rendering.

I use Softimage with the exporter plugin. But I had a few instances of Max open earlier. After I closed them, the available memory went up to 780 MB. I then closed absolutely everything else I had open, but it's still sitting at around 780 MB.
If I deactivate one of the 590 GPUs, the available memory goes up to around 1200 MB. Is this normal? I realize that the GPUs have to split their memory, but shouldn't the 590 have a total of 3 GB, i.e. 1.5 GB in Octane?

Do you have alot of clips in Soft? When I hit the memory roof, I usually delete all source clips within Softimage and hope that it frees up some texture memory.
Dont know how the 590 works though Im afraid... Sometimes there seem to be stuff stealing memory on the GPUs and a computer reset solves the problem.

Win7, i7 980 Hexacore, 24GB RAM, 3xEVGA SC 670 GTX 4GB
I had to set the multi-GPU option in the Nvidia control panel to deactivated. I can now render with both GPUs enabled in Octane to around 1.3 GB, which is just about enough.
@Peter: Yes, we've been doing a ton of importing and export between Soft, Max and Maya today. I think part of the scene is a bit messy regarding source clips. I'll clean that up to hopefully get as close to 1.5 GB as possible. I also deactivated Windows Aero.
