Wired, MentalRay looks ok here.
Funny is, a cube at origin 0,0,0 with 300k tris needs with MR 7sec, 100% CPU to render, is the origin at 50000,0,50000 the time is 1:30min, 100% CPU and the computer is nearly freezed...

It's not an Octane bug.

vray, vray-rt, mentalray, iray, produce the same results.

I did another experiment: I modeled with Rhino two cubes of 10x10x10cm distant 10 kilometers to each other.

the first one was meshed well, the second one with approximate meshes.

But what happens if I create a tree 100 kilometers distant from the origin?

:? :? :? :?
the world would explode. don't do it

hey GabrieleFx thanks for spotting this ...I was sitting here and wondering what the hell is wrong with my geometry when close to dispair I suddenly remembered browsing through this post of yours....
moved the model closer to the origin and all is good!

thanks.

gabrielefx,

I'm with you. The last time I used OCTANE...which was months ago, I got the same result as you can see. I tried everything imaginable for days to make this work...scale, rayepsilon, rebuilding scene etc. Nothing worked! and It cost me
a lot of valuable time. Don't get me wrong...I think OCTANE will be a great useful rendering engine someday.(someday is the key word) It would be great if they could send me an email when an update is available as there was supposed to be an update about a month ago. It is painful checking this forum everyday. I am very frustrated with this. peace

Can't Octane use double-precision FP?

single precision is enough.
Problem is we use half precision for memory economy.
We should not do that.
