Hi

after a few test on the attached scene, DOF seems to work with null object.
but after rendering a single picture, i hit 'esc' key to come back to the 3D screen and sometimes it makes Blender crash ( version 43431 from graphicall / tungers without any addons - I work on win7 64, with 2xGTX470 and proc. intell [email protected] / 16gigs ram).

Another last qusstion, i tried to launch a scene with commande line like this (working well with cycles):
blender -b scene.blend -o R:/"test_render/" -F PNG -a
but it doesn't work: the batch script process each frame but doesn't launch octane program... If you have any suggestion about this it would be very appreciated because it would be very handy to launch a bunch of scenes to calculate during the night...

thank you in advance !

Hi all,

usually I have Rhino for modeling and octane for rendering. Since Rhino can´t do animations I "abuse" Blender for this. Plus the exporter for Blender is real pleasure to work with! Thank you so much yoyoz!

Now there is one problem I have. I tried to make an animation with a little fountain in a small basin. I used particles to animate the water"drops" and used the new Dynamic Paint in Blender 2.61 to have the drops react with the water surface (creating waves etc.).

While playing the animation in Blender everything works just fine, the drops rise and fall and create nice little waves when touching the water surface.

Now something strange happens when I export the scene to octane. When I bake all physics, the drops will be visible in octane but they don´t move, whereas the water surface is still animated. When I don´t bake the drops disappear but the water surface is fine.

Somebody have an idea?

Thanks in advance

Vipvip, isn't this topic helpful?
Concerning the DOF and camera animation via command line you should refer to Octane user's manual for command line camera parameters.

Stiwi, if your drops are made with particles, you should see this post first — maybe you'll find your answers there.

thanx aLeXXtoR for your reply but i'm afraid the other topic doesn't respond to my demand: in fact i'm looking for rendering muliple animation files via a blender batch-command line ( which works with cycles & internal renderer, but apparently not with octane and i dont see why ( but i'm not a "code-beast" :) )

Hm... I see. I am not an any kind of advanced coder too. :)
I'm not sure if it possible to run such "batch render" via command line because of Blender-Octane integration is made via cmd-line too, BUT maybe (I am really not sure — it's just a suggestion) it is easier to do it with python script inside Blender (it loads (imports) scene from file, starting render with saved parameters, then loads next...). And... this solutions now seems to me even more stupid after I wrote it down. )))

@Vincent:
the reason why it doesn't work is because all setup for rendering/exporting/animating is made by the code that is called when hitting the button in the interface (clearly not the best design but it allowed me to workaround other issues at that time). As a result, when rendering is called by the "-a" option the exporter is in an unknown state and doesn't launch octane (this is also why you should not render using F12 or Ctrl-F12).

I'm aware of this problem but it requires some significant changes in my code for fixing. I'm still waiting for the new export format before going into it because I don't want to have to redo everything again. Despite Refractive announced plug-in developers the new format would shortly be available in October, we're still without news...

Ok Lionel
i see what you mean: so i'll keep on rendering animations with cycles ( oops sorry RS team ;) )
Anyway thanks a lot for your 'suivi' !...

Hi, I still can´t get my fountain to work properly. I tried aLexxtoR´s hint but maybe I did something wrong. I reduced my project to surface, fountain and camera and attached it. Maybe someone can find out.

Thanks

I am getting this problem:

Exception: Octane plug-in: Image output directory is invalid or contains spaces "J:\3D\testouptuts\" ("J:\3D\testouptuts\diamonds\testbg.png")

location:<unknown location>:-1

There are no spaces, it worked fine for another render just a couple days ago, anyone have any ideas? I don't see any spaces in there or any kind of symbols etc...
