I appreciate your continued efforts in Blender plugin.
Although cycle is a great improvement for Blender. It doubt that an "one-manned" Blender add-on can ever surpass the quality of a fully-dedicated dev team like yours.
OctaneRender for Blender plugin product dev wanted
Sorry, I have absolutely no skills in programming. As a Blender user, I really need a plugin for Blender, and I have no willing currently to use Cycles. It is imho far from being mature and currently doesn't see my external GPUs. So, using the weak GPU shared with my two screens, Cycles is very slow and useless for rendering.

Well, I re-posted this announcement on blender.org at the time it was posted here, but it generated 0 replies... I guess nobody's interested, at least nobody out of those who are well versed in Blender C++ API.
I wouldn't put much hope into seeing a Blender Octane integration. Not anytime soon.

ughhhh, I'm dying with current workflow, and trying to use Octane for a commercial I'm working on. I learned blender, and now I don't want to have to take all that time to learn something else. Really hoping that someone can be found to make a plug-in for blender, cycles is not able to do jewelry right, and I I'm getting some funky problems with the unofficial script. Really hoping for a 3rd party tool, I'm fine with paying, but I suspect few others are.
CPU - i7-950 3.06 Ghz, 24GB Ram, Win7 x64, 2 display monitors, GeForce GTX 580 3GB Classified. I'm glad to say I LOVE OCTANE!
I am fine with paying too ! I really need a good solution to make realistic animations in a reasonable time. Currently, 80 minutes of export+load per frame on a 3GB scene for 2 minutes of rendering is not tolerable !

Since Cycles I don't believe anymore in a integration of Octane in Blender as well.
It's bad to say that, but I guess Blender will always be interesting for students, polis, poor countries, hobbiests,... but never a serious alternative for the industry in rich countries.
Kind regards
Alain

Poor countries* just use a pirated copy of Max on pirated Windows
(* it has actually to do with mentality, not GDP)
But don't underestimate Cycles. The force behind it is considerable (think about how much time it took Octane to come where it is now)

Sounds like @Roubal needs another 8gb of ram if its taking 80 mins to export/import. Paging to disk?
For myself I don't have a big need for cg and rendering. Not enough to invest in Max and say Vray anyway.
Blender is just fine for my purposes. Its amazing what capability Blender has these days although I admit it is a little rough around the edges in comparison.
I'll continue to use it as an intermediate step to set up my scene with stuff exported from a CAD program which ever renderer I use. I can use the same hardware for both Octane and Cycles so that's handy and neither program costs much.
Although Cycles is simplified or optimised for artists it actually seems to produce pretty good renders.
I think for convenience I will do any animations in Cycles but stick with Octane for quality stills.
I am not sure even if a plugin was available I would buy it in my circumstance but I understand the frustration of Blender/Octane users who would like one.
Perhaps Blender Octane users could sponsor a developer to write and maintain a plugin.
If 500 users contribute $20 each = $10,000 - maybe they can make 5 progress payments with that.
Just guessing the amount. I don't know how much work is involved or how the coding would fit in with Blender. I suppose it needs to be in C+.
Possibly it sounds more attractive to some coder that way knowing the money exists already.
I think there are 3500 or so Octane users so finding 500 Blender users ought to be possible.
For people who come along after the 500 maybe they donate their $20 to the Blender Foundation.
Perhaps Refractive could help out with their e-store to handle the money side of things and 'license' access to the plugin since it is in their interests to have the plugin as well.
If the project were to fail for some reason the remaining money could be credited to the contributors next Octane upgrade. Hopefully though another developer could be found to continue and finish it.
What do people think about that type of deal?

Yes, but My current motherboard only supports 8GB, and the mobo I'd want doesn't fit in my machine and would require to change everything, so my machine will remain as it is. I plan to purchase a big computer with two CPUs with 24GB for each, and a P6T7 motherboard supporting 4 GTX 580 3GB, but I will not have the money soon, as clients are more than rare around here !Sounds like @Roubal needs another 8gb of ram if its taking 80 mins to export/import. For the principle of plugin founding, I am OK. Maybe Cycles will be more usable when it will support multi GPU, but I really like Octane much and would like to continue with it as my main render for everything.
