Hello,
I've tested the demo version, but the same happens with the full version (a friend of mine lended it to me for a few tests).

For some scenes, rendering doesn't start. With the demo version, it looks like the video card is working, but nothing appears. With the full version the render doesn't start at all instead.

Here two screenshots, of the screw demo scene. The first one with the mesh node selected, and nothing appears. The second one with one of the material node selected, and there it renders.

My guess is that my video card is not good enough, maybe not enough memory or something (I have a 9800GTX), but before purchasing an Octane license along with a proper video card I would like to be sure this problem won't happen again.

Any idea on why this happens? Have you ever been in this situation?

Hi, yes i think it is a memory problem.
You should download the demo suite from the download page, there are a few test files
with low memory consumption but good overview about octane.
If these files are working all is ok.

Cheers, mib.

Yes other files are working fine (benchmark, hallway and spaceships scenes all render).

512 MB will indeed fit only small scenes, and besides that, OS X itself, and any other program (like 3D applications, but also browsers) may use some GPU memory for hardware acceleration.
