My results were identical to yours and estimated that (with path tracing) the 3ds max version took about four or so times longer to reach a similar level of noise. There seemed to be persistent lighter pixels in the shadows that were tough to get smoothed out. I'm using a 480m in a laptop (if that means anything).
hi guys,
check the number of samples
in depth and in lights

I renderized huge (3GB) scenes without loss of performance...

Pathtracing was used to render for 1000 samples. This sounds like a bug to me unless someone would mind trying the same setup and confirming this, so I know it is not problem with my hardware but an issue with the plugin.

I did similar test and I can say that octan standalone (beta 2.56)is faster and less noisy.
Here first test.
Scene settings:
Kernel: Pathtracing 1000 samples (other by default)
Background (color max/octane): (255,255,255)/(1,1,1)
Materials: both diffuse material, gray color (230,230,230)/(0.9,0.9,0.9), red color (122,0,0)/(0.5,0,0)
Imager: exposure 1, f-stop 2.8, ISO 100, gamma 2.2, Agfacolor_HDC_400_plusCD

Render times: Octane for 3ds Max - 40 sec, Octane Standalone - 35 sec
I attached scenes (for 3ds max 2012 and standalone)

PS: I did some mistake - corresponding color value in max (to float value 0.5) has to be 127 (not 122). I've been always bad in math :) But it doesn't matter for the test results
PPS: I forgot to say - I have GTX 480

I reduced gray color value (walls material) from (230,230,230)/(0.9,0.9,0.9) to (122,122,122)/(0.5,0.5,0.5) and I've got this result. Less fireflies, but standalone version is still much cleaner.

Hi..thanks..but.. You should have one account/password per license purchased?
"For run OctaneRender® for 3ds max®, you need to have an activated OctaneRender® Standalone copy activated on the machine you wish to install the plugin onto.
You cannot purchase only the plugin and use it without also owning and having an activated copy of OctaneRender® Standalone on your machine."

I'have only one account in Website Area! One OctaneLive Username... Not additional username and password OctaneLive Account appear.. But can I create an other account too without buy an other license? Thanks

I would like try Octane for 3Dmax but with the same User and password..dont'work. While I'have activated account on my PC in Octane Render and I can use it with C4D perfectly.. Thanks
For OctaneRender standalone you need one account, for OctaneRender for 3DSMax, you need an other one.
When you have, you should see in the customer area two OctaneLive accounts, one for the standalone and one for max.

I did a different test, based on the render time, in our case about 5 minutes. Standalone version achieve the best results using a small number of maxsamples (2000). In 5 minutes the rendering of the plugin version is worse even the maxsample number is greater (5500).
All the others parameters are the same for both version.

you could also deploy the plugin with:

the blow-up rendering (to normalize the perspective with large value of FOV)
override material in the rendering dialogue window

If you have an activated copy for the standalone version, and then you have purchased an octanefor3dsmax license as well your details should appear in the customer area - octanelive accounts section. Can you confirm this.
