afaik the options are
- octane standalone
- octane plugin for 3ds max
- octane + 3ds max plugin bundle
so you just need to buy the plugin in addition to your existing octane license...
But if i buy the octane plugin for 3ds max what will i do with my existing octane render licence? sell it? send it to the shelf?
... Or did i misunderstood? the octane plugin for 3ds max doesn't need the octane standalone to work right?

...im sad... :(
you just need to have both licenses anyway. if you already own a octane license, you only need the addtional plugin license. of course the max plugin doesn't need the standalone version to run, but you still need to own 2 licenses. if somebody doesn't own an octane license yet, and buyes the bundle, he'll get two licenses (octane + plugin), for a slightly cheaper price - that's the way it works...

& look at the current beta prices - there's imo no need to be sad :)
Thank you for your explanations, i wasn't aware that for running the plugin you would also need the stand alone licence.
Thank you once again

Max users are really excited and can't wait to buy Octane for Max.
Octane for Max will revolution the 3d rendering market because it costs few bucks...
If you want to use Vray-RT gpu nested in Max you have to pay $1,295
If you want to use Arion outside Max you have to pay $1,368
Yes, iRay is nested in Max 2012 but, believe me, after a lot of tests I prefer Octane.
The countdown shows my deep interest to have asap this software because I got many clients that want new renderings, and I don't want to use Vray anymore.

I hope that Refractive will develop Octane for Xsi too, and you will be happy like me.
