Nothing happens, and Octane doesnt start from "zero" when you change the sliders in the medium node, as it does when using it connected to a specular material. So I suspect the medium node is deactivated when used with diffuse :/
Hi guys,

SSS or absorption medium DOES work on diffuse transmission materials,
but you need to make your diffuse material into a diffuse transmission material first, by connecting a texture node float value or colour to the 'transmission' (2nd from the left) input pin first.

Once it's a diffuse transmitter, light does transmit into the object and as such allow you to use a medium node on it for absorption or SSS.

Aaaaaahaa! It wasnt very clear how to use it :) There where several things that confused me. But now its rocking! For people having a hard time with diffuse materials.. Dont use DL! PT is the way to go. Then, you dont see the transmission if you just slap a diffuse material in there. This must be connected with a node. Also, the emission is going under the Scattering node once you connect it. Don't care about the emission in there, because it has nothing to do with the scattering, and should be treated as usual.

Well, this SSS is fantastic!! I could only dream of this kind of speed before... Wooha!

Hi.

I think, the rendering of glass is now faster because the improvement of noise is better.

Hi to all Linux and Mac users,

We have completed our builds, and as it's very late,
we will do final testing and then package them and upload them / make them available tomorrow before noon (NZ time), in approx 12-14 hours

Thanks for your patience, and thanks to everyone for assisting us finding problems and providing good feedback :)

Ops just read the bit at the top! Seeing as in am a new user guess I had better go back to stable version, lol. Just being nozey really, would not want to confuse the devs with my lack of knowledge lol.

... just encountered a crash bug: if i try to add an texture input pin to the transmission node of a diffuse material inside of a macro and if it is the first(!) connection from that pin, octane crashes immediately;

new scene > new macro > new diffuse > new texture input pin > connect pin output to diffuse transmission input :!:
The obvious is that which is never seen until someone expresses it simply

I've finally got a moment to try out this release .No bugs or crashes yet.

However I must be a bit thick. I cannot seem to get the SSS to work

See screen grab.

I thought I'd try a candle , but the wax doesn't seem much like......er....wax ! ;)

I'm probably doing something wrong , just not sure what.Any suggestions ?

Cheers
