Admitedly, it's a big file for SU - 18Mb. But the exporter has been working for about 45 mins... The OBJ export file in windows explorer keeps getting bigger (over 1Gig now!) but it is working away steadily. I am on a bit of a deadline. Octane helping and SU hurting rigth now.
I have the usual 'not responding' on both SU and Octane exporter. But this normally does not mean a crash is imminent and I can often work on.
Is it normal to wait this long for a large export or do I need to bail (and use my OBJ exporter pluging and hope for the best?
Any advice appreciated.
Seeker.
SU exporting very slow...

Just completed... 1hr 12mins. File size 1.64Gig.
Octane ate it for breakfast (erm, lunch) - you beauty!
Also possibly of interest to some, the 18Mb SU file was handled better by the GTX460 than the Quadro FX1700 on openGL. I was a bit surpised by that - guess it's the memory (?)

It is a large file - unfortunately Sketchup slows down almost exponentially as the data size increases!
BUT it is writing text files [OBJ/MTL] for every single face in the model with material mapping etc - so millions of faces in just over an hour isn't so bad...
One way to reduce processing time is to use layers to set what's not needed to be invisible - then the exporter ignores them too.
So for example if your render is only going to be of the outside of the building why include the closets, bathrooms and sanitaryware etc that will be exported [in time] but will never be used any. Alternatively if you are rendering just the bathroom then why include the kitchen fittings and the car in the driveway and the garden!
This way you can set up scene-tabs that reflect the contents/layers required and switch between them for exporting different aspects of the model to Octane as different OCS files...

Thanks for the tip Tig. Can they just be hidden and placed in views as you suggested or do they have to be on different layers in SU?
In this case most elements that are not intender for the rendering was already omitted by not exporting them from Revit.
I wish I knew of somebody with the skillset to develop a Revit plugin. Sigh...

No need for layers then.
Thanks for clarifying, Tig.
