Dear Users,
Could you please advice me about necessary power supply for two graphics cards GTX 580 - is 1200W enough? What do you recommend?

Is octane working 100% faster with two cards comparing to one card?

I use 800W for two GTX460, never encountered any problems.
And yes, it´s nearly (!) twice the speed when using two cards of the same class.

Cornel,
thank you. What about cooling such a system? Any additional fans?

I would recommend at least 800 watt for 2x GTX580...
Some powersupplies can handle it and others can't at 500-600W

Hi All,

just now I've purchased the commercial release of Octane, I'm waiting for your email and directions on where and when download the software.

I would like also to know if is a good idea to purchase a pci express external box to fit 4 Teslas

Anyone could suggest what is the best pci 16x expander?

Best regards.

four teslas!! They are over £1500 each. Man you must have pockets. In that case, buy a 1600 watt PSU!

I think this the right choice:

2 Cubix cases + Teslas cost more...

Except if you actually need more than 3GB of VRAM per graphic card, I would recommand GTX 580 3GB. They cost around 600 Euros instead of 2272 Euros for the most recent Tesla C2075, and the Tesla C2075 has 448 CUDA cores instead of 512 for the GTX 580 3GB.

This said, if you can afford them, Tesla cards will allow you to do everything, so for a professionnal use it is a must.
