Is it normal that typing Octane Render on Google you get Octane Power Tools as the first result? Nothing too bad, I suppose, however I find it a little annoying (without thinking is the second time I click ion Power Tools.com instead of Refractive software.com, this coukld happen to many others like me..)

for me* the octane power tools link shows up as an ad - and that's the reason why it is on top of the search results...marcobaccioli wrote:Is it normal that typing Octane Render on Google you get Octane Power Tools as the first result? obviously typing www.refractivesoftware.com is easier, or using a bookmark, but do you think that every new possible customer already knows Octane Render's web address?
Imagine this situation.. I have read something about Octane, let's say on a magazine.. So I open up Google and search for Octane Render, 'cause I might bee interested in buying the software.. Google shows OctanePowerTools as my first result, so I click on it and quickly get lost wondering how to purchase or download Octane Render.
However t_3 is right, it shows up as a Google Ad, that means that PowerTools is paying for publicity... Refractive Software is not

Well, this is what I get if I search for octane render:
No power tools. Maybe because I have ad blocker & noscript?

if you are logged into your google account, your search results can be verrry different from everyone's else - even if you are not logged in, but use google often from the same pc (without cleaning cookies), you'll get more and more results which were tailored to your specific interests - at least like how google sees themmarcobaccioli wrote:well, so I suppose Google behaves differently from pc to pc, this is what I get..

@matej: if your adblocker is any good, it'll of course filter those google ads. thanks for mentioning that, i just switched mine off yesterday, but have forgotten to turn it on again; now that's why i actually saw that ad

PowerTools are just on first spot because its an advert.
I get Octane Renderer as first placed result too below the ad.
Seems Refractive guys don't make a lot of commercial stuff via google.

Hi guys,
We are not happy with this situation, as we have already lost sales and got mails from confused would be customers.
Octanerender is a registered trademark and what they are doing is not legal.
We have worked very hard on octane, and it has become very popular as a result.
Its a shame to see people trying to profit from our hard work like this, at our expense.
Comments appreciated,
Radiance
