same bug here:

when rendering turntable anim with 250 frame (25fps/10sec) every 2nd picture is the same..

i need it so much, please fix this:)

system: see sig (mint 10/ 2xgtx580...)

edit: 2nd try: animation stops after 143 frames with the following message:

"...
Octane plug-in v1.10 on 2.59.1.39821 : Status set to Info: Completed in 0h4m14.65
Info: Completed in 0h4m14.65

CUDA device 0: KERNEL FAILED!!!
CUDA device 1: Not enough memory to allocate buffer of 159478136 bytes for texture 7

not shure what happend. -While tuning the scene and before hitting render in the turntable tab, there was more than 700mb vram free..?

RS Team,

- any updates on the Octane manual?

- Is there anything decided on animation support in Octane? Granted that voxelization now is way faster than before, still a huge portion of rendering time can be saved if the whole rendering process can minimize voxelization. Mdd format is widely used in all animation packages out there (max, maya, xsi, blender, houdini, lightwave, etc).

- Anything on the milestones that can be published to the users? So we can know a bit about the next features? Just a basic info will do.

- The new SDK for supporting Octane natively. Will it have a python wrapper? Any plugin designed based on the wrapper should be available to user from multi-platforms right away.

It will be fixed in a bug-fix release beta 2.53. I can't say when we will release it, although I hope it's not too far away.

Have you been doing anything in parallel that might use up VRAM - like working in Blender?

How I see it, there are three possibilities:
1: Octane leaks memory like crazy. You should then either see the memory usage of Octane (the white bar) or the unaccounted memory usage (the red bar) go up.
2: Some other application or a second Octane instance uses the up the VRAM, in which case only the unaccounted memory usage (the red bar) should go up.
3: There is some serious memory fragmentation happening that stops Octane from being able to allocate larger memory chunks.

Unfortunately, without any more information I can't say anything more specific.

Cheers,
Marcus

Temporary solution for this animation problem would something like following.
decide about the samples/pixel
lets say you want to achieve 2000 samples/pixel.

1. set the sampling level in mesh preview kernel as 1800 (<2000)
2. set the sampling level in Turntable Animation Output as 2000.

hopefully this way, when you will render the turntable animation, it will not have any first or second frame problem..
Here its working perfectly.
Best Regards, Jitendra

hey marcus,

thx for your reply.

i didnt use the workstation while rendering turntable anim.
i will have a closer look later, to give you more information about the problem.

2 jitendra:
-thx for this workaround. i will try it:)

thx dave

Hello, Octane team. Well, I have bad news :

I hadn't had enough time to test 2.52 with real projects before today. I had just loaded some random objects of light weight.

Today I created a scene with my current project made in Blender 2.59, ands applied materials in Octane. Everything worked fine until I decided to modify the blender file and relink the modified obj file to the open scene in Octane.

I had just added a plane with an UV mapped texture with alpha, and removed an unwanted object that I had forgotten in the file.

The scene weight 1247.7 MB in Octane, and so It is less than the half of the available amount of memory usable on my two GTX480 3GB.

Octane freezes when relinking, and refuses to close. I have to call the task manager to kill the program. My two GPU appear sometimes busy at 99% and sometimes at 0% when it happens. When they are at 99%, their temperature is weird : 47°C and 65°C in the Cubix box. Usually the difference between the two cards is around 5-7°C.

My previous project in 2.46 used almost all my memory capacity, and though relinked fine.

I also tried with only one GPU enabled with the same result.

If you or anyone else could send us a scene that lets us reproduce the problem, we probably can solve the relinking issue. If it's the relinking itself, then this problem is independent of the memory usage.

Marcus

The problem is that the obj file weights 434MB. As you need the original file and the file to relink, it gives 868MB, plus the textures, plus the ocs and mtl...
I tried to compress in Zip but the total weight is still around 240MB !

Yes, that's what I thought. Can you reproduce the problem with a smaller scene?

Thanks for your help,
Marcus

does not work for me as workaround. still got every second frame the same render.

maybe i miss understood something..
