and all reload after lw, sacene, re-parameter exporter ans so on...
Unusable for serious prod. works... :(

+ all other bugs ( normals & more....)
Yes, agree with you...it needs corrections and update.
This is valuable for both, exporter and Octane.

But for my next cartoon tv serie project, I think this is not perfect but usable....

Thanks for the infos Radiance, very instructive about low polys. ;)

With this new informations, I gave another try today and...I'm very happy because I found how to use Octane with Lighwave for animation !! :D

My pipeline is Messiah Studio for rigging and animation, export .mdd to Lightwave, then add an displacement mapping to use my Zbrush sculpt and finally use the holocube's exporter....and it works very well.

So, this is possible...
If somebody is interested, I can make a little video demonstration of it.

Bye.
Franck.
Yes, this is possible but not for smoothed surface. ;)

Try this :

Second message.

Try exporting from modeler, then from layout with plugin...

Yes...you're right !!

In fact I can have a good result with smoothed surfaces, but it needs a very high count of polys !...which is bad for animation production .
I don't know if the problem is coming from the exporter or Octane, but we clearly need an update to add Octane in our pipeline production !

I did some little tests here, that shows that Lightwave and messiah can easely do smooth shading on low polys object !!
I'm sure that Octane can do the same...there is a bug somewhere.

Please Radiance, we really need your help ! :|

Regards,
Franck.

Hi,

This is indeed what i suspected and is a bug in the lightwave export script.
The exporter does not write out vertex normals properly.

We're doing our best to get holocube to provide a fixed version of the export script asap.
I have not gotten a reply, will try to call him via phone again tomorrow.

Thanks!

Hi Johan,

finally I can give you this sphere....it came from messiah export .obj and is perfectly smooth with Octane Render !

I did a few more tests yesterday with the HC obj exporter and it seems to work well on smoothShading....
Apparently, only the Octane exporter is bugged on smoothShading.

But the sphere I give you here is importing perfectly smooth, even with the Octane exporter.
You find in the folder the .lwo, the .obj and the .ocs.

I hope you can correct the problem quick and easely, let us know.

Good luck guy ! ;)

Franck.

Hi Holocube

happy to see you here :)

* Could you fix please the ability to stop a animation from lightwave interface, actually when you launch the process, you have to "hard-reset" lightwave with the windows task manager !.. On other apps ( maya and blender ), just hitting the ESC key stops immediatly the process

* Hope you will improve the smoothing/normals problem too.

*+ features ( like in other plugins ):

- ability to track an object/null with camera to define the sharp-point of depth oh field ( like in blender 1.10 plugin version )
- ability to key the aperture values over time
- ability to key the camera-angle values over time

* last think: is it possible to improve the speed of OBJ export ( because actually the fast mode (the only working-one) is not as fast as other ( i'm using the maya and blender one, which seem to be faster ).

it would be great !..thanks per advance !

and thanks to Radiance too ;)
