Hello guys,

Im just wondering since the majority of people here are between 25 and 50, who are head of studios, programmers, freelancers,in house based studio heads, teachers and even some medical heads lol.

I was wondering what level of education you took with you to go in the real world. For someone like me who is 16 [17 tomorrorw :D  ]
This is a very important decision that will affect my future life whether i go into university or TAFE < just like uni but cheaper and more hands on]
I myself will probably do a two year course in game art [Maya modeling, texturing and animation] along with a three year course in CGI [ video editing, composite, audio, modeling]

At the end i will get a diploma or degree in both of the courses which will look good on my resume along with my three minute video reel.[2017]
Bare in mind i will probably do some freelancing or i might get picked up by a local studio< already in talks with one> during this time.

So please tell,

What did you get?
Diploma, Degree, MA, PhD

What subject?

Was it worth it?

Did it help you in the long run?

Happy belated birthday by one day! I hope it was good, and you got lots of hardware and software presents (that's all I ever ask for :P)!

I can't really directly answer your question, because I'm finishing High School in 2 months, but I don't intend on going to uni. Instead I'm starting a 3D training website (website already exists but currently with no content) focussing mainly on Blender and using Blender with game engines, however I'll probably add some tutorials for other software I have, too. I was originally going to go to Melbourne-based RMIT University, but after going to the Open Day decided it wasn't for me (a year and a half of introduction to different forms of animation before choosing an elective? No thanks).

Good luck in your endeavours!

Radiant

Belated happy birthday to you.

did you get some nice GTX 590's as presents? ;)

In answer to your questions. No , I never took degree's. I was pretty rubbish at School.Even now, I don't have many qualifications to my

name.

Everything I'm up to now comes from being self taught in Cad and 3D from using them in my previous employment.

My job used to be designing Laboratories for a living. After being made redundant , I'm now just freelancing, doing furnishing visualisations.

That's what pays the bills.

Hi Radiant.. see I got myself a BSc in Computer science (and physics up to year 2) - I wasn't that much interested in programming after the uni so in the long run, it didn't do much for me.. well, the general knowledge helps generally, physics was actually more interesting to me than computer science was, and it was all a bit too general, afterwards I got some education in networking, still wasn't too happy with the idea of fixing somebody networks and computers (which I am doing now "for a living").. And only a few years ago I got into 3d and interested in design - cause I know I wanted to try that like 10 years ago, but never got around really trying to push myself, and discovered I really enjoy doing that sort of "work" a lot - you have at least a 15 year start ahead of me :) and I believe you will do great in whatever you choose, just keep a (realistic) goal in mind..

Anyway, you have time to decide, but try to imagine what sort of a thing you will be happy doing for a long time.. you may change your mind, and we are all allowed to change it.. I would recommend you doing the hands on education approach - the university education is always just so general - and if you have no idea what to do after that, you could get stuck..
In any case, you need to have a goal, you probably heard that a lot, and you probably have one. Choose the most practical hands on education, something that will equip you professionally in at least one skill, and you can always work and upgrade on that.. even change completely, but if you are really good at something and understand that, you will understand how to achieve anything.
So do the practical education that will bring you results, and do the thing you know you really like, or love doing - that's how you get really good at something.. and hope you find this helpful.. enjoy the education, it's a great experience :)

rimac's dad is a mobbster with enough money to pay ~30 people to design what his son wants, so no, he didnt design or built that car himself, he just found people willing to do what he tells them for a fat paycheck. prolly a good barging cause they did what they like and it doesnt really matter at that point who gets the credit as long as they're happy with their job :)
