Playing with some critters on a photoscene tree stump.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to make the snail body look slimy. I have tried doing a material mix or a glossy surface and am not getting that slippery slug look and feel. Maybe I need to add some kind of outer skin of polys that is purely specular surface on top of the diffuse polys.l

Would love some tips on that

Thanks

Peter

it does depend a lot on the light, but I got a decent result using a mix with specular and glossy material, where the specular has a high roughness value (wax like), and in your case, most likely, the glossy quite a low roughness.
BTW it's looking great, I like the snail!

the glossy material needs a map for the specular/roughnes wich takes account to the folds.

Thanks for the tips that helped a lot.

Now I need to work on a better stump and create a slime trail using the same kind of maps: >)

I have only tried specular maps and glossy maps a little. Especially in Octane I thought using them defeated the purpose of a physically correct rendering algorithm... but I can see how in some cases it really helps.

The skin looks cool now.
Any other animals planned for the cue?
Can't wait for the slime trail. I guess the fly will then crush into the snail because of the slippery ground ;)

Thanks Face (although 458 and Polynoid is just amazing.) I had not seen that before. Makes me realize how far I have to go. But thats what makes it all interesting.

OK two more just to get input on... I lost the robotic dragonfly as I thought it was kind of out of place. I also made a better stump...
Would love feedback from you all if you have a moment and the inclination.

Thanks

Peter
