So this may already be covered somewhere but I haven't come across it yet... Basically I'm running Windows 7, Quad core i7 @ 2.8Ghz, 12Gb Ram, and a 3Gb GTC 580. I'm rendering a fairly complex interior scene which can take an hour or more a frame to look really great. (And Octane really does look great!) The thing that I don't understand is that the card never seems to use more than maybe 1/4 or less of it's memory? Is this normal? Is there a way to force it to use more, and would that even actually speed anything up??
If Octane would use more memory it would not speed up anything. Actually where does the idea come from that more memory usage speeds up things?Invivia wrote:So this may already be covered somewhere but I haven't come across it yet... Anyway, you should be happy that only one quarter is used, because it allows you to add more stuff to your scene or render larger images without exhausting your GPU memory.

Thanks for the quick response, I had a feeling it wouldn't really speed things up but I wasn't sure if there was a way to eek out a little more speed from the card. Is it more a factor of CUDA cores or something else then? Is there maybe a thread anywhere talking about how to maximize your hardware configuration? I'm reasonable comfortable with the efficiency of my scene, I just want to ensure I'm not causing a bottleneck due to my comp setup or something. Also, the new BETA is great! portal lights, PMC, multiple GI's, and so many of the little things are making Octane more and more robust and fun to use with each release!
