looks a bit dark there when open space is well lit at the back

Yea it's true about the light but i don't know a way to mix a hdri with direct sun light if not I'll have to model the trees in the background. thanks for the critique

Close the scene with a plan and a low res image of the env on it and change it's brightness to match the interior light, this way you can increase the power of hdri without worrying about the background look.

You can render with an alpha channel and then composite in a background afterwards.
