Hi all,

Here comes the new release beta 2.50, which adds absorption to specular materials. Any feedback is very welcome and much appreciated. We plan to release this version in the commercial release forum. If you find any serious issues, please let us know.

This release was built with CUDA 4.0, which means that you should install the latest graphics driver (http://www.nvidia.com/page/drivers.html).
For Linux and Mac OS you also need to install the CUDA Toolkit 4.0 (http://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-toolkit-40).
For Mac OS you also need the latest CUDA 4.0 driver (http://www.nvidia.com/object/mac-driver-archive.html).

New features:
  • added absorption to specular material node
  • added command line parameters to allow output in HDR images (--output-png16 / --output-exr / --output-exr-tm)
Bug fixes and improvements:
  • the destination node pin name is now displayed when you drag new a connection
  • similar to the node inspector, the outliner stores now its open/close state
  • tried to improve UI performance on Linux when display GPU is used for rendering
  • locking the viewport now disables resolution lock
  • precision of logarithmic float nodes is now higher (needed for the ray epsilon parameter in the kernels)
  • fixed crash when OCS file with emission macro is loaded
  • fixed bug with relative file paths when the OCS file didn't exist yet
  • fixed crash bug when you tried to connect a macro node with a node that is displayed in the node inspector
  • fixed patterns in material rendering at specific resolutions in direct lighting
Known issues:
  • on Linux the PMC kernel doesn't work on pre-Fermi GPUs (i.e compute model 1.1 - 1.3) - we couldn't find the problem yet, which seems to be a compiler bug
  • on Windows the latest NVIDIA GeForce driver 280.26 causes problems with the first initialisation of the alpha buffer, which we couldn't work around yet. for the time being please switch back to the previous stable driver release 275.33.
Here are the archives (to save time we haven't build installers yet):

Hi again
Trying to do a glass material with the new absortion parameter, I've notice what I think is a bug.
The Index only let me select entire numbers la 1, 2, 3 or 4 but cannot select 1.5 or other decimals.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong
Cheers

That's a visualisation of the memory that can't be used, i.e. the memory that used by the framebuffer, the system or other applications.

Cheers,
Marcus
