Crazy amount of spam attacks here. There is more spam comming in that I can cope with my mouse.

This may not be practical, but, I run a forum for a gaming community and approve each person by hand. Sometimes I do a search on the email and find quickly that its a bot. since i have been doing that, no spam. This would probably require some admins to be dedicated to this job however.

At least, you could approve the first post of an unlicensed user. There are other forums that do so. That would minimize the amount of admin work.
