Just a basic proof of concept, I took an hour and made some falling diamonds and converted to mesh, exported to octane, cooked it in PT mode with the diamond material ( THANK YOU WHOEVER PUT THAT IN THERE, IT WORKED GREAT! ).

tossed it over an image used from here:
http://www.123rf.com/photo_6410290_beau ... round.html

just used for proof of concept and possible pitch to do the work myself instead of them shooting the diamonds falling with an overcranked camera.

Glint and defocus used in Vegas Pro to give the final touch, and saved a snapshot to send off to my friend. Thought I'd show it here too because I liked it.

I think the streaks are a little overdone in the second one. They're much more subtle in the first image, which is better.

Ya, I had accidentally popped it up.

Here's the adjusted back version.

It still needs to be cooked a little longer (Dispersion seems really grainy), or maybe done with smaller overall HDRI Studio setup or maybe just a bunch of IES lights would be better . Dunno yet, but this gives them the idea either way.
