Hi,
I opened this post just to ask whether there is more about controlling spam  , porn links  and various advertising :x , because the forum is full of this crap.
Wonder if it is possible to eliminate some "dummy accounts" to prevent this. ;)
Thanks. :)

-1, the forums wouldn't be the same without spam... Now we have finally shifted from pills & wedding gowns to pr0n... 8-)

I've read somewhere that to earn $100 spammers must send a million (or so, IIRC) messages. So, if it's of any consolation, they haven't earned much from spamming Octane forums, yet :D

I must admit the spam is becoming more than an annoyance lately.
Refractive need to do something about it or people wont want to visit the forums.
How about not allowing immediate posts for new members and also giving admin rights to a few trusted members to remove the spam and obvious offenders. ;)

Yes, there must be a solution soon. This is getting out of hand and will keep regular users away from the forum because it is so annoying.

The date of register is the same as the birthday, maybe there is a quick solution to check if there is a spammer...

Yes indeed the spam is very annoying.
But because RS didn't remove the spam during the last days I am sure we are close to a new beta release of 2.49.
Capcha the unregistered users posts.

I've seen a post similar to this before but funnily enough I have not seen one post of spam yet.

I hope the team does something.
thanks

ps: I used 5 minutes of my time to report them, maybe we can all do something to make this forum useful already, even more.
thanks

... i think refractive is already deleting accounts and posts, but this will not help because this are (still) bots targeting any phpbb around, which will register over and over again. seems like a phpbb captcha is no barrier for them.

a maybe better solution would be honeypot fields - fileds which are hidden to a real human (e.g. via client side executed javasript) so only bots would fill them out. or fields which require an answer to a question ("type the sum of the current month plus zero"), or something like that: http://www.phpbb.com/kb/article/custom- ... mmer-tool/ (this is by the way a phpbb ready solution which would be easy to implement).
The obvious is that which is never seen until someone expresses it simply
