I apologize if this seems like a newb question. I am having a problem when I need to add a new mesh into my mesh I have already textured in Octane. For example. 99.99% of the work we do for our clients is in a traditional render. If an architect wants to make a change to our mesh, i.e. adding something small like a bench to added a new part to the building it would seem like I have to start my textureing over in Octane.
Because I have to save everything as .obj before bringing into Octane, how do you save the texturing work I have already done if I need to change the original .obj?
Thanks!

save your original file in octane.Leave octane open.koots wrote:I apologize if this seems like a newb question. Add/ change the mesh in your 3D program.Re-export the object file.
go into octane and refresh loading the .obj file in Octane. It should refresh the scene using the existing materials , whilst the mesh is updated.Of course ensure that the new added objects are UVW mapped and materials assigned before saving out the obj file.

I have noticed when doing that the file name is changed.Usually when i do that in max and re export the object file an _ is added to the file.So you end up with a duplicate file name but one has an underscore automatically added.Depends what 3d app you are using and how it saves duplicate files really.

- Try to create uvs per object, so you are not running into issues after updating / adding objects. If you exceed the CUDA texture limit of course it can make sense to combine objects into one UV space.
- Name changes are usually no problem as long as you do stills. But I would even then reload the mesh instead of altering the .ocs by hand (to prevent issues with material linking problems). If you do animation there can be problems with the exporter if your obj mesh node has a different name then the ocs file. Because the exporter has to adress a specific mesh node.
