Hi Marcus,
did you receive my e-mail concerning the dot patterns problem today?
There must be an 'old bad node' somewhere.
Please help me to find it.
Thank you

@SamCameron : As I work on very big scenes, I tried to find out Octane's limits. I can confirm that only the way the memory amount is displayed has changed (it is rather reassuring, as it shows the actual limit). In my tests, I ran out of VRAM around 50, up to 260 MB before the physical limit. It seems to be not constant and depending on something other than Octane. If you run a monitoring software like EVGA Precision, it always show a certain amount of VRAM used, even when the GPU seems to be idle. If you use one of your GPU for both display and computing, this new display mode is imho very useful.

 The weird thing is that EVGA precision doesn't see the VRAM amount used by Octane !

Yes .. I can confirm that the reported memory limit seems to be about right.Running my 2 screens ( one at 1920 x 1200 & the other at 1280 x 1024) I always usually run out at about the 740mb mark on my 1Gb card with all previous versions of Octane I have used.It is now reporting this amount available. So as far as I am concerned it now seems to be reporting the memory limit of the system correctly.

Yes it was already reported and it will be fixed with beta 2.48b. Thanks for the report nonetheless.

Cheers,
Marcus

Yes I had that too with imager.
But it seems not very stable.
I tested it several time and it works normally at the begining (I think) of the rendering and after a while it stops working on pause :?

The high interactivity was the reason I purchased Octane. Please remember what is written on Refractive site front page :

Why You'll love it ?
Not only is Octane Render fast, but it is completely interactive which allows you to work with your scene in ways that were not possible in the past. Edit the lighting, materials, camera settings, depth of field, etc. in real time with instant feedback on the results. It allows you to work at the speed of your imagination. You will feel more like a photographer exploring your scene. It makes rendering fun again.

I am really sorry to say that since the screen refreshing time has been increased, there is no more fun.

The new refreshing mode is in my humble opinion no more compliant with the advertising.

Please come back to the previous mode, or add a button allowing to refresh like before when working on the scene (navigating and setting up materials) and slow refresh when rendering out of control of the user.

The high interactivity is (was ?) the main advantage of Octane. Do not forget that point.
I totally agree with you on that topic.
Please give us the high speed interactivity back, the recently introduced slow refresh wiewport thing is a real pain to use, find a good camera spot, naviguate trough the scene etc...
responsiveness of Octane is/was one of the most top feature I like/liked, and really made the real difference against competition, especially when used with direct lighting;now even DL with clay shader only is painfully sloooooow when I wander in my scenes trying to find the best shot angle!

The intermediate timer for display feedback would be fine if it maybe had a timer of, say, 20 seconds of inactivity within Octane before kicking in.

DL Vs PT 2.48 no portals

PT 46 min
PT_no_portals_46min.JPG

If you could improve DL...

i know that you alwys says octane is unbiased but DL is real time rendering comparing to PMC and PT

PT and PMC looks ofc 10000 times better

its hard to me to whait 46 minutes to see GI, but mybe i have to buy more CUDA cores cos 460 is nothing special

but beeing here all time, looking octane development, understanding how hard is to develope sw, reading Radiance posts about future development

i can only help posting bugs and wishing wishes :)

Im the architect, iron my sword Octane team ! :)

respect for Octane team !
