I'm about to buy a notebook especially for modelling & Octane as a portable alternative for my pc.

The local dealer offered me few notebooks and I have narrowed the offer to 2 of them:

Dell XPS L702x (~1500 US$):
i7 2630QM
HDD 1TB
8GB RAM
17,3", 1600x900
GF GT 555M with 3GB

or

MSI GT 780 (~1850 US$):
i7 2630QM
HDD 1TB
8GB RAM
17,3", 1920x1080
GF GTX 560M with 1,5GB

Is the difference of performence in Octane worth the price difference?
I'd really appreciate your advice.

Hi
As far as I know, the gt555 has 144 cuda cores vs 384 in the gtx560m.
So if you need speed the 560 is twice as fast as the gt555.
In the other hand gt555 has 3gb RAM vs 1,5 in the gtx560, so if you need to render pretty high polygon scenes then it will be slower but shall manage more polys, and qith the same amount of polys gt550 will render at higher resolutions.
Experts may correct me.
Cheers

8gb ram probably isnt enough to fully utilise 3gb vram - more like 12gb I think.
I'd suggest if you have render jobs using up 3gb then you would probably want to use multiple gpu anyway ie in a pc. I think 144 cores would be kind of a waste of $. For the lesser renders you might want to do on a laptop you probably wont use 1.5gb anyway...
I'd go for the more cores option and it will be happier to display the UI and the Octane navigation will be better as well although the display of 1920x1080 will eat a bit of the space.
I wouldnt go under 1.5gb for a practical size for Octane.
I guess a 1080 screen is more future proof and perhaps nicer to look at?
There maybe other reasons why the more expensive laptop is the better choice? usb3.0, bigger battery? etc...
You should give consideration to the graphics performance for 3d stuff as well. Non Quadro cards can be a bit lame for those purposes. Better check that out thoroughly as well.

To correct the info given above I see the 560M has 192 cores and is about equivalent to a GTS450.
The 570M with 336 cores is about on par with a GTX460
The 555M comes in 96 and 144 core versions and comes in about GT440 level.
I am not 100% certain but I think these cards top out at 1.5gb vram.
Honestly I think I would look for a 570M given you cant run another card in a laptop for Octane display. These latest Nvidia chips seem to be more crippled for modelling than usual too so I would go with the best one I could afford. If you get a 1080 screen you will appreciate the better card I think esp if you play games at all.
