Because, of the distortion. In real life there is no distortion with a windshield, or maybe only a littly tiny bit. How did you get rid of the distortion without lowering the ior?

Does your windshield has thickness or it's just single layer of polygons? I'm sure that problem is in the model of a windshield. Can you show wireframe of your 3d model?

There was no thickness at all, now added some thickness and it is working with a ior bigger than 1, there is only a tiny distortion, which you can ignore.
