From the website it looks like the type of program that has a big shiny red lens flare button.
What are the import options like?
I don't think that it will work on XP since it requires DirectX 11 (which I don't think is available for XP).
That'll be my problem then!
Looks like this piece of software can collect dust until I next upgrade.

Machstudio is an extended DirectX based renderer, not a raytracer but a z-buffer engine, much like a game engine,
so it does'nt support raytraced effects, and output is very different (although faster) than unbiased raytracers.

MachStudio can render very very fast, but not anything like Octane's unbiased approach. Much better for non-realistic rendering and very fast animations. DOF is a post effect, and most of the secondary lighting techniques are similar to "beast" and look like they came from the gaming world. No matter, the final results are very very cool. You can tweak AO and add all your lighting in after you load the obj meshes. Much of the interface is similar to Octane's so it's pretty easy to get up and running quickly. Also, you can use their layering system to render out passes for AO, color, etc etc, and use another renderer (MR, Renderman, Octane?) for reflection passes. Speed up your entire workflow.

BTW, I'm new to this forum, so hello folks. Anyone else hear about Mental Ray's untimely demise? ;-)

It must take some serious faith in your product to offer it for free like this.

Well I guess Machstudio isn't a competitor to Octane. Both are very different and useful in their own ways. Machstudio looks very good for pre-viz and the types of animated kids TV shows that are on these days (they're bad shows, but it's the same rendering style)
