Saw this on CGtalk this morning.
All I know so far is the download is 500megs and it is a free version.
Worth having a look at.

Wow, this was normally $4000. Surely there must be some sort of catch down the line? Downloading now regardless...

There is a blurb somewhere on their site stating that they think the software is such a game changer that they can survive by providing support/training etc. I guess they need it in use at as many places as possible to make that work.

Interesting.Looks like they have programmed it to run on DX11 rather than Cuda or Open GL language.

That of course would knock out Linux or mac users (unless they used windows boot camp)

Had a play.

It looks like Render Overkill to me. :o

It has everything in it.

Move objects,move cameras and lights,Animation,apply materials,render various passes...... ETC,ETC

Everything that has been requested by the Octaneers at one time or another in the past.

Except it looks like it's out of control.Maybe a warning to the Team. This is what can happen when you throw everything at a renderer including the kitchen sink approach.

Octane although still needing tight integration and some of those features, seems slick in comparison, even in Beta stages.

Anyway that's my initial reaction.

Not sure what everyone else thinks.

Maybe the team need to download it and have a play.see what they think. (if they have the time ;) )

I could not get it going on XP 64. Missing a dll.

From the website it looks like the type of program that has a big shiny red lens flare button.
What are the import options like?

There are plug ins for most of the usual suspects

See link:

I don't think that it will work on XP since it requires DirectX 11 (which I don't think is available for XP).

I'm running both with exports from Softimage 2011 and 2012 (both work great.) Quite a different beast than Octane. I plan to put both into heavy use. MachStudio can render very very fast, but not anything like Octane's unbiased approach. Much better for non-realistic rendering and very fast animations. DOF is a post effect, and most of the secondary lighting techniques are similar to "beast" and look like they came from the gaming world. No matter, the final results are very very cool. You can tweak AO and add all your lighting in after you load the obj meshes. Much of the interface is similar to Octane's so it's pretty easy to get up and running quickly. Also, you can use their layering system to render out passes for AO, color, etc etc, and use another renderer (MR, Renderman, Octane?) for reflection passes. Speed up your entire workflow.

BTW, I'm new to this forum, so hello folks. Anyone else hear about Mental Ray's untimely demise? ;-)
