Hi all

since Octane is so very affordable the userbase is (fortunately) not only with the professionals. But there is a downside with that I guess. There are already some dozens of materials in the database and I guess it will be more soon. But they are sorted in alphabetical order and I find many to be mediocre quality wise (my personal opinion). A main task when I am doing 3D as a job is speed. Not only renderspeed but the total of setuptime and rendertime. And so I quickly want to find a good material for e.g. a brushed metal as a starting point. And since they are just sorted in alphabetical order I have to click them all the way through (hoping the naming had been done properly).

So I suggest a rating for materials just like in maxwell. The materials database is one BIG thing about maxwell. Despite the fact that I own octane that might be the reason I need to buy another unbiased renderer for client work.

The materials contest some time ago was a very good thing to do. Have more of that. I´ll have my own try!

Cheers,
Rogurt
