After cycles has appeared everyone is craving for this. Ironic. I guess everyone finally see the advantage of NOT having to duplicate endless features that are already present in 3D packs. I mean please Octane don't even bother trying to do a functional timeline nor animation, concentrate in the render kernel and plugin integration. For the last time.

To make a functional timeline system is probably harder than writing a functional plugin for max, Softimage, Maya or whatever. The keyword being functional.
+1

Being a Blender user I doubt Cycles will replace Octane.
For some individuals - maybe. But I know that quite a few of professional studios around me slowly (and some quite fast) turn to using Blender. And they don't care about spending a hundred or two to make their product have more flexibility.
If the integration/reliability will overcome certain problems Octane will stay superior enough to be bought.

I disagree with your opinions guys ;)
You cant Integrate OR in every 3dpackage so tight like Cycles.
There will be comfortable exporters. Im sure.. But thats all.

I didn't mean "tight" integration. I mean integration at all.
Export from app and import into Octane is painfully slow. At least for me this is the main obstacle, not being unable to model or animate in Octane. It certainly can be fixed, but requires programming time for each app and Octane itself.
Though this is not max of optimization it should be enough as Cycles won't have all Octanes features any time soon.

In further versions it could be not reloaded for each frame, keeping static textures/objects etc., etc.
A sci-fi fantasy at moment, but maybe Octane could do import directly through memory without physical file at all. Then it would basically merge with all the apps like Cycles with Blender. What could beat that?

At the moment, the longest part for the export, is the export for all the instances... Just supporting that will speed the exporting up probably 10x, not sure if it still will have to voxelise each instance individually, but hopefully that will be sped up aswell.

Yeah, some said that IES lighting inside Octane would be an aberration of nature and it was so impossible, and here it is.
Saying that something can NOT be done without question it's kinda sick statement... it has been done already by other apps... I think their API's are tight AF. What I agree is that not ALL 3dpackage should be considered...

aha, Poser has a timeline system, but it don't mean it's functional, in fact it's ASS. It's like comparing the hypergraph to OR's 'node graph', it's light years away.

Proupin, who ever said IES-Lighning is an impossible mission?
Bytheway i was the first one who asked for IES lights ;)
And how do you come to Poser from OR???

Yeah you will be the one, who will decide ...sure... ;)

I'm wondering how does the distribution of Octane users among various 3D packages look like... Pools still aren't working, I bet... :(

I see no point for non-constructive criticism, but I have to agree that app cannot be "chosen" if it already is stated to be supported.

My current scene takes 4:43 to start rendering and instancing won't help. Now that is an integration problem (not mentioning that even the exporter was not developed by R.). On other hand the product isn't even complete, so I have no right to brag about it actually :) Sorry - it's just very annoying.

(edit: to tungee)
I can't be explaining everything to you as if you were a kid. If you don't get it don't start a flame war. You know shit about my skills or knowledge.

ok...
About IES, I never said it was you, who cares, it's just to say that everything is viable whatever some may think... and some said back then it broke the laws of "unbiased" physics, whatever that means.

About the apps to be considered, it's solely my opinion, the same way you spit out yours. "You cant Integrate OR in every 3dpackage so tight like Cycles": how could YOU know this?

And dude, about Poser it was an example after your "confused" :? emoticon. Again, don't have time to enlighten you.
