Hi there.
Create and apply different materials to all objects in C4D, export obj & mtl,
and use the material picker in Octane to adjust them.

See Octane manual (PDF) on page 36, 37 and 68.

There is a C4D Plugin available for licenced users (sorry not for demo),
which manages to export the obj and mtl very well.

alternatively, you could try the riptide exporter for C4D to get that mtl file.
It´s freeware: http://skinprops.com/riptide.php

Licensed customers have access to a C4D export plugin that writes OBJ/MTL files, and adds some additional functionality like animation export and rendering. You will get a general overview about those things in the manual, which comes with the demo beta 2.46 and which you also can download from our downloads page.

Cheers,
Marcus
