Hi There,
I'm like a few others out there, a SolidWorks user looking for a decent unbiased rendering solution. BunkspeedShot etc are OK, but lack the detailed type of control that Octane seems to offer.
I've tried using both Sycode's OBJ exported for SW, as well as Moi3D - both of which produce strange results. I've turned everything to maximum, MoI is exporting NGONS and I'm just not sure whether I'm going to be able to get Octane to fit into our workflow in a way that produces decent results.
Anyone out there with experience / tips?
Thanks in advance,
Nick

Just an update on this, triangles only work, when I select the option to "divide larger than" set to about 1. Results in a big file and more vram use, but given the scenes I'm working with arn't that complicated it should be fine.
Thanks for the tip.
A native SolidWorks plugin in the future would be awesome (like BunkSpeed Shot) and we could even provide some funding for it, if it is a feasible project.

I use deep exploration to convert solidwork constructions to lightwave in obj format, so it should work fine with solidwork to deep exploration to octane, I have done some test with that and smoothing angles are fine, no need for ngons.
just be sure to check use smoothing from original solidworks file in deep exploration.
Me using lightwave is a different story, since we need to model some softer part´s like cushions wich are harder to do in solidworks, and I still use lightwave to render the stuff out, because there is an issue with lightwave obj export wich crashes octane.
