Hello,
At first, excuse my english, i'm french.
i'm just a very new user for octane ( since 2 days) and i have to congratulate the team for octane : the renderer i've ever dreamed of, with a 'photographic' logic and result ( and speed of course, just with a 'simple' gtx470, it's amazing !.. ) and to my mind a very intelligent and creative concept...

i've some requests with the scripts for applications:

(1) I own a MAYA 6.0 licence ( old but still excellent ) and i want to tell you : the MAYA 2009 version of the script works very well with octane ( animation, Dof, good focal camera conversion etc...) but only with the beta 2.44 ( -> with 2.46b, a error message appears after rendering 2 or 3 trames, saying that the 'obj' object of the project is unusualable ). So:

(1a) In future, please can you STILL develop a 2009 version of the script ( with the 2011 version, i don't have acces to the disk-path request for choosing output, .exe etc..., ilt makes an error when clicking the boxes) for the future versions ?
(1b): i hope the new version of scripts will be able to work with the last version of octane...

(2): i hope you will continue to develop ( more) deeply the lightwave plugin -with my lightwave10 license: same problem: i have to use the 2.44 because animation doest work and the OBJ exporter ( or the process after clicking the render button ) is VERY slow...

(3): i'm waiting a blender 2.57 official plugin because the existing one (non official seems to have some problems with anim)

(4) do you plan to integrate glow or glare for material ( it would be great, still possibility to do with post prod but its not the same...)

(5) is it planned to integrate: animated bitmap textures and/or more procedural textures ?

(6) what about caustics ?

-> i'm a 'newbie" with octane some of them perhaps released ;)

Long life to Octane and and success to their developpers !!

Regarding the animation export problems: http://www.refractivesoftware.com/forum ... 077#p53077

Regarding further development of export plugins: We haven't found a good solution yet, since development of the exporters is very inconsistent, but we are currently trying to sort things out. Unfortunately we neither have the knowledge nor the time to do the plugin development ourselve and dependent on third party developers.

There are plans to add more post effects like glow/glare to the imager node, but this is something further down the road and I can't say, when these features actually become available. The same applies to animated and procedural textures.

Caustics are possible already, by using the pathtracing kernel and mesh emitters that are not too small. Sun caustics get filtered out, since the sun is too small to produce any useful caustics with the pathtracing kernel. We are currently working on a new render kernel that will hopefully solve these problems in the future.

Cheers,
Marcus

Thanks, marcus, for your quick and complete answer.
To my mind, your 'human' presence on these forums is one of the 'key' of your (actual and future) success.

Just a last question, i tried ( quickly, just for test, nothing 'artistic' ) to render a lamp with emissive object inside, but i did'nt find the way to render semi-transparent shodowing/lightning:
look at the pict attached.

Do i miss something (probably, i just discover octane since 3 days) ?
Is there a way or is it planned to realise semi transp. rendered shadow/lighning ?

Regards
Vincent
