IMO even if the raw source code seems different, the project's workflow looks much like simply being coppied from RS (except material nodes which look more Max-like).
Dunno how many Blender users are going to turn their back on RS, but I'm personally going to support Octane as long as it's possible.

As a Octane Render user & most of it as a Blender User I wish to share my opinion about all of this, I purchased Octane Render beucase it could offer me things that I don't have in my main tool (Blender) but serious limitations aswell (hardware license limitation, slow export/import method, and so on...) but now if I can use this quality of render inside my main tool without limitations that would be awesome, the people of refractive software have to push the machine a lot to go further the future competitors, because once I have Blender with GPU acceletarion I may not need anymore Octane Render if has a similar number of features but with less limitations, please Refractive software focus in the user's features requests and keep working, but this time with a real effort to provide new features & quick! or else you will have to close the business.

You've also got to keep in mind that there is only a portion of users on here that use Blender.Being a stand alone there are a lot of users using all sorts of 3D packages.
That is why I think Octane needs to publish as many Converters as possible.That would make sure that all the eggs are in as many baskets as possible.

With the new Blender render system is going to bring many people from other apps to Blender. Blender has just hit the 3d market.

Well, the work-flow can be copied from anywhere and just by using Octane, this is not evidence yet and it's actually not an important thing. The important stuff is the actual implementation at code level (as Abstrax noted in his post). GPU rendering is new stuff and as we see in the case of Octane, some algorithms that are "easily" implementable on the CPU, are not so on the GPU. For new technologies R&D presents the highest cost. If someone else does R&D for you, then you have just saved a lot of money & time.
More suspicious to me is that this new renderer uses CUDA and not OpenCL, which would be more expected from a FOSS organization since OpenCL is widely supported by everyone, but CUDA is more proprietary (the guys at Luxrender are working with OpenCL, for example). The knowledge Brecht acquired when working with RS has obviously been put to good use, but still, that doesn't yet mean that the released code will harm RS.
RS should contact BF and ask them if they can inspect the code, before it's released worldwide.
